Around 1995, an enthusiastic grandfather built a large scale model of the Mercedes Benz SSK for his grandchildren. The aim was not to build a precise reproduction of the SSK, but a personalize toy on the base of the SSK. The model does not have the construction finish of a high-tech model, but it has enormous appeal. The model was primed to receive an electrical motor to move it along, however the motor was never installed. The model can therefore only be pushed (or pulled). Nevertheless, this SSK was exhibited a few times. Of particular interest is the reproduction of the compressor engine, which becomes visible once the cowling is opened. Hard to believe but true, this engine is made of wood! The headlights work, and the instruments on the dash have been rescued from junked cars. Braking acts on the rear wheels, by means of a foot pedal and a handbrake. The straight body panels are aluminum, rounded or curved parts are GRP.
